The History major serves as the fundamental building block of knowledge. It offers the framework for a well-rounded education, equips students with the means to comprehend both themselves and the modern world, and cultivates abilities that enable educated individuals to lead more satisfying lives across diverse professions. This program not only readies students for teaching roles and advanced historical studies but has also proven valuable for those pursuing careers in law, library science, international affairs, diplomacy, ministry, business, government, and museum curation. History majors gain these valuable competencies: enhanced comprehension of our society and current era, deeper self-awareness and historical context for modern civilization, the ability to balance contemporary perspectives with historical awareness, and mastery of research techniques, effective written and verbal communication, analytical reasoning, evidence assessment, and solution-finding. They also learn to appreciate how individuals and communities have influenced their environments while enjoying the exploration of societies that may differ greatly from or closely resemble our own.
