First-year engineering majors at Clemson begin in our general engineering program, providing a year to discover various engineering fields. Mechanical engineering is Clemson's largest undergraduate program, with approximately 220 graduates annually.
Mechanical engineers study the design, production, and performance of everyday objects. As science and technology continuously advance, our curriculum emphasizes both foundational principles and contemporary tools. A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering frequently serves as a foundation for graduate studies across numerous engineering specialties—including biomedical, environmental, industrial, automotive, aeronautical, and nuclear engineering—and for other careers such as business, law, and medicine. Our department's research includes experimental, analytical, and computational work spanning fields from fluid mechanics to transportation systems and vehicles.
Qualified students can participate in our Bachelor's-to-Graduate Program, earning credits toward a graduate degree while completing their undergraduate requirements.
