Aspiring to become a GIS industry leader? Our Master's in Geographic Information Science (GIS) program is tailored for your ambitions. This advanced degree builds upon our globally renowned expertise in cutting-edge geospatial technology, where we're advancing remote sensing interpretation, cartography, and data analysis to uncover fresh insights about our planet.

The M.S. in Geographic Information Science (GIS) brings together three university divisions: the Graduate School of Geography, the Department of Sustainability and Social Justice (previously IDCE), and Clark Labs - our in-house geospatial software development center that created the globally influential TerrSet/IDRISI platform, now among the world's most utilized GIS systems revolutionizing spatial problem-solving methodologies.

Students collaborate directly with distinguished faculty to investigate and implement innovative geospatial solutions for society's most urgent issues. We pioneer research in conservation GIS, land transformation, public health initiatives, environmental equity, food security programs, humanitarian aid, and earth systems informatics. Four specialized concentration tracks allow for deeper exploration of these subjects, equipping graduates to make significant contributions immediately after completing the program.

International STEM graduates may qualify for up to 36 months of U.S. work authorization through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Clark's GIS master's program merges academic rigor with diverse practical applications. Over two years, students transform classroom knowledge into real-world solutions through collaborative projects with communities, NGOs, government agencies, and businesses. These hands-on partnerships provide invaluable experience in implementing theoretical concepts and developing creative approaches to intricate challenges.

The M.S./GIS curriculum consists of 12 course units, encompassing core requirements, foundational courses, and concentration-specific electives.
