The Hemispheric and Transnational Studies program examines cultural and historical connections across the Americas, investigating how research on the Atlantic world, border regions, and diasporic communities has transformed academic fields like American Studies, Caribbean Studies, and Latin American Studies, with particular focus on imperialism, racial dynamics, and revolutionary movements. This interdisciplinary concentration is offered to graduate students in Applied Gender Studies, Cultural Studies, English, History, and Religion programs. Students earn this specialization alongside their MA or PhD degree, with the credential appearing on their academic transcripts. A key scholarly objective involves analyzing how transnational perspectives are reshaping academic research priorities. Participants investigate how studies of transatlantic connections, borderlands, and migration patterns have influenced traditional area studies. Specific concentration requirements vary depending on the student's home department or degree program.
