Recognized by the American Psychological Association (APA)1, the Doctor of Philosophy in School Psychology program builds upon specialist-level training to equip school psychologists for broader roles within educational systems and communities. This program develops professionals capable of delivering diverse mental health services, leading initiatives to create comprehensive support systems for children, families, and schools, and overseeing school psychology service teams.
Rooted in the scientist-practitioner approach, the curriculum focuses on applying behavioral science principles within educational and community settings. Instruction emphasizes evidence-based practice, teaching students to ground their work (including consultation, intervention, and assessment) in scientific research while evaluating outcomes to enhance services and advance the field. The program cultivates cultural competence regarding ethnic minority populations and promotes awareness of and accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
