Our Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program equips students with the skills to excel as professional audiologists.
If you're passionate about hearing science and helping others, explore this highly-regarded program at CMU. Audiology significantly impacts the well-being of individuals with hearing challenges. This is particularly crucial for children and adolescents who often don't report hearing issues, and adults who may experience gradual hearing decline without noticing. Audiologists are healthcare specialists who diagnose and manage hearing and balance disorders throughout all life stages.

As the nation's first-established program, Central Michigan University's audiology doctorate thoroughly prepares you for a rewarding career. The four-year curriculum combines academic coursework with comprehensive clinical training.
CMU boasts the country's most experienced AuD program with a tradition of outstanding quality. Through our Doctor of Audiology program, you'll gain:

Practical experience working alongside faculty in modern classroom and clinical settings.
Opportunities to participate in research studies and treat diverse patient groups from newborns to seniors.
Chance to deliver clinical care across central and northern Michigan via the Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education.
Collaborative experiences with the Michigan Ear Institute, including observing live ear surgeries, analyzing 3D surgical recordings with specialists, examining ear anatomy in a temporal bone lab, and practicing cochlear implant procedures on models.

Qualification Requirements

Admission to the audiology program is facilitated through Communication Sciences and Disorders Centralized Application System (CSDCAS) on line application process.
The admissions committee considers the applicant's undergraduate transcript, GRE scores (waived for Fall 2022 admissions) and letters of recommendation as well as personal statements and relevant professional experiences. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must also submit a minimum score of 100 (Internet-based), 250 (Computer-based) or 600 (Paper-based) on the TOEFL. Because an audiologist interacts with patients, an applicant's maturity and interpersonal skills are also considered. After the initial screening of all applications, interviews are conducted with the most qualified applicants to select the final candidates for admission.
