Music is a deep passion that deserves to be shared. Those pursuing a music education degree receive extensive performance training alongside specialized coursework for K-12 teaching certification. You'll develop expertise in performance, music theory, historical studies, and teaching methods - equipping you for either classroom instruction or competitive graduate programs. Under the guidance of accomplished faculty, students refine professional competencies and teaching strategies for music education at all grade levels. CMU graduates teach in schools across Michigan and nationwide, at universities, and in community arts initiatives. Many also excel in adjacent fields like music publishing, retail, and arts administration. Central Michigan University's School of Music occupies a cutting-edge 119,000-square-foot complex featuring a 500-seat concert hall with a Casavant organ, intimate recital space, digital audio labs, recording studios, and a comprehensive music resource center. Music majors may join the Residential College, living among like-minded peers who share their artistic aspirations.
