The program offers diverse media options including hand-drawn animation, classic stop-motion methods, and modern 3D computer animation. Your studies will encompass character development, storyboard creation, 3D modeling and lighting techniques, character movement, and special effects animation. Throughout the program, you'll have multiple chances to assemble an impressive professional portfolio. Animation combines various skills, methods, and technologies to communicate through movement, design, and visual storytelling. At CMU, animation students grow their artistic perspective and technical abilities within an encouraging, creative environment. The program introduces students to animation as both a professional field and globally recognized art form. Media options range from hand-drawn techniques to stop-motion and digital 3D animation. Coursework includes character creation, storyboarding, modeling, character animation, visual effects, and additional specialized topics. The Art and Design Department hosts an engaged student group (Animation Super Station) that regularly convenes for film screenings, guest presentations, and project collaboration.

Qualification Requirements

High school graduate: If you are currently in high school, we just need to see your 9-11 (or equivalent) grade transcripts for an admission decision. However, you must graduate from an approved high school (or equivalent) prior to starting classes at CMU.
To ensure your success at CMU, you must provide proof of proficiency in English
Submit official transcripts from your high school. If you have college credits, also submit transcripts from all colleges or universities you have attended.
TOEFL: 550 PBT/79 IBT for regular admission.
IELTS: 6.5 for regular admission.
General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or General Certificate of Education (GSE): A score of A or B on the English Language Exam.
SAT: Evidence-based Reading and Writing (EBRW) score of 520.
ACT: English score of 21.
ELS Language Center Program: Completion of Level 112 for regular admission.
International Baccalaureate (IB): A grade of 5 in English at the Higher Level is required for regular admission.
