This program is tailored for students aiming to pursue careers in human services after completing their studies at CMU or continue to graduate school for further specialization. The curriculum equips students with skills to assist individuals and families in developing essential life competencies through prevention-focused and intervention-oriented educational initiatives (such as child and family support services, crisis management, adoption, and foster care systems). With additional graduate training, career possibilities expand to include roles like marriage and family therapists, counselors, social workers, family researchers, or university educators. The Family Studies program holds accreditation from the National Council on Family Relations, enabling graduates to qualify as Certified Family Life Educators (CFLE). Those in Child Development seeking CFLE certification should seek guidance from their academic advisor. Note: Students enrolled in the Family Studies major cannot pursue a Family Studies minor or dual major in Child Development. A maximum of 9 credit hours may overlap when combining the Family Studies Major with the Child Development Minor.
