Our advertising program stands among just two in Michigan to earn national accreditation from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications. You'll be taught by distinguished faculty who bring real-world expertise from top agencies in Chicago, Detroit, and Grand Rapids.
Choose to focus on one of three specializations: creative development, account leadership, or media strategy. Based on your career goals, you'll master crafting persuasive messages, nurturing client partnerships, or optimizing campaign placements.
Gain practical skills by attending premier industry events like the College Newspaper Business and Advertising Managers Conference (featuring competitions in black-and-white display ads, classified sections, mobile applications, and more). Earn while you learn through paid positions in CM Life's top-ranked advertising/business division. Throughout the program, you'll tackle actual marketing challenges while working with established brands including Huntington Learning Centers, Amazon's Brilliance Audio, the Great Lakes Loons, Bissell Home Care, and others.
As an advertising major at our institution, you will:
Enroll in one of Michigan's two nationally accredited programs recognized by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.
Receive instruction from professors with substantial professional backgrounds in intimate classroom environments (our faculty have served Detroit automotive clients, held creative leadership roles at Leo Burnett, among other achievements).
Obtain practical marketing experience via internships, CMU's student media outlets, and client-based course projects (past collaborations include Huntington Learning Centers, Pierano Estates Vineyards, Brilliance Audio, and others).
Engage with CMU's Advertising Club, which participates in national contests and provides access to guest speakers, agency tours, and professional connections.
