Nurturing well-adjusted adults begins with fostering healthy development in children. As a child development student at CMU, you'll empower young people to establish the groundwork for lifelong achievement. Whether your passion lies in guiding individuals from infancy to young adulthood, championing children's rights, pursuing social work or counseling, or supporting youth across diverse family and community environments, this program provides the essential foundation for a career dedicated to helping others reach their full potential.
Can you recall a mentor from your childhood who taught you resilience? Someone who instilled the confidence to excel while staying true to yourself?

Our child development program prepares you to become that influential figure.

You'll explore the lasting impacts of human development from birth through early adulthood. Through hands-on learning opportunities, you'll graduate ready for meaningful professional work. Previous students have gained practical experience through internships with government organizations, shelters, youth facilities, and other settings.

The curriculum addresses interdisciplinary subjects including:

Family dynamics and parent-child interactions.
Developmental stages from infancy through early adulthood.
Cultural influences and systemic challenges.
Psychological well-being.
