Developed jointly with the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, this certification equips students to engage with and shape the emerging landscape of tech-driven, data-informed approaches in social services and policymaking, while establishing and upholding appropriate ethical standards. The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences partners with Case School of Engineering - both premier institutions at Case Western Reserve University - to offer a Data Sciences for Social Impact (DSSI) Certificate.
This program trains students to effectively operate within and help direct our technology-dominated, data-centric age of social services and policy development, with careful attention to creating and maintaining ethical frameworks. It emphasizes where data science meets social sciences to enhance community well-being, while thoughtfully evaluating how these digital tools affect people from a moral standpoint. Participants get to craft and execute research initiatives relevant to local communities, mentored by specialist faculty, while gaining insight into the lived experiences of individuals reflected in the data.
