This five-year combined degree program is tailored for students aiming to build careers in fundamental or clinical research within academic medical settings. The curriculum consists of three to six specialized graduate courses in a student-selected focus area, six credit hours of graded medical school classes, a shared seminar program, ethics training in scientific research, and an intensive year-long research initiative concluding with a thesis and faculty evaluation. Specialization options encompass biochemistry, clinical studies, epidemiology, healthcare systems analysis, nutrition science, pathology, and physiology with biotechnology. Each concentration has distinct course prerequisites. Tuition is waived during the research year, and participants receive a stipend.
