Ethnic studies explores the complex examination of socially-defined classifications including race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, and immigration status. Through diverse sources—from artistic expressions to academic research—we critically investigate how identity constructs emerge, evolve, and are contested across different eras and regions. Our approach highlights how these racialized frameworks interact with broader societal forces like imperialism, warfare, and economic systems. Courses challenge structures of oppression, evaluate historical and contemporary activism, and explore philosophical concepts of freedom. Equipping learners with analytical frameworks while centering underrepresented narratives, we create an academic environment where "ethnic" in ethnic studies undergoes both rigorous analysis and purposeful validation.
