Biology explores life processes, from how species interact with one another and their surroundings to the molecular mechanisms at work. The Biological Sciences Department at California State University San Marcos offers a comprehensive curriculum covering life at ecosystem, population, organismal, and molecular scales. Life consists of intricate chemical processes and relationships, and we aim to comprehend how organisms relate to each other, their environments, and their internal biochemical functions. Students pursuing Biological Sciences can select from: 1) A General Concentration, 2) Molecular and Cellular Biology, 3) Ecology, or 4) Physiology. The general track provides broad biological sciences exposure, while the cell/molecular, ecology, and physiology concentrations allow for specialized study. By carefully selecting Biological Sciences and General Education electives, graduates can fulfill prerequisites for graduate programs, medical school, dental school, optometry, veterinary medicine, and other professional degrees.
