History examines the past to illuminate the present, studying the structures, beliefs, traditions, and innovations of people throughout different eras and locations.
It concentrates on transformations across time - both in the topics being studied and in how historians understand them. History encompasses all documented human activity, connecting and contextualizing accomplishments in arts, sciences, social sciences, and other humanities fields.
Those who study history develop skills to critically assess information, organize facts objectively and convincingly, identify patterns and significance in data, and synthesize this knowledge within the wider human story. Learning history offers valuable perspective, enabling people to understand their personal lives, beliefs, and global events within a broader framework while recognizing the evolutionary processes that shaped today's world.
