The Certificate in Introductory Mathematics fulfills the necessary requirements for obtaining the Subject Matter Authorization: Introductory Mathematics. Earning this certificate enables holders of a valid California teaching credential to qualify for teaching mathematics content up to ninth grade. Both regularly enrolled and extended learning students can pursue this certificate.
Certificates are available to regularly matriculated or extended learning students and signify the successful completion of a structured curriculum aimed at:
developing specific professional, vocational, or career skills, or
achieving expertise in a specialized area within an academic discipline, or
exploring diverse materials in traditional or emerging interdisciplinary subjects.
Some certificate programs include 600-level courses as mandatory or optional components. Undergraduate students are ineligible to enroll in these 600-level courses. Participants must complete at least two-thirds of their certificate-related coursework at the university. Credit transfers or course substitutions require approval from the relevant campus authority.
