Certificates can be obtained by regularly enrolled or extended learning students, signifying the successful completion of a structured program aimed at:
developing specific professional, vocational, or career skills, or
achieving mastery in a sub-discipline of an academic major, or
offering an overview of materials in a traditional or emerging interdisciplinary area.
Some certificate programs include 600-level courses as mandatory or optional components. Undergraduate students are not permitted to enroll in these 600-level courses. Participants must complete at least two-thirds of the credit required for the certificate at the university. Transferring credits or substituting courses is allowed only with approval from the relevant campus authority.
Geographic information systems (GIS) have evolved quickly and now play a crucial role in governmental policy development and industrial uses. The Certificate in Geographic Information Systems equips students with core principles and advanced methods in GIS and associated technologies. After finishing the certificate, students gain the essential knowledge and abilities for careers in GIS or related fields.
