The Department of Ethnic Studies dedicates itself to educating students through historical, interdisciplinary, intersectional, theoretical, and relational approaches to Ethnic Studies. Our faculty teach courses and pursue research focused on the political and intellectual traditions of communities of color in the U.S. and across global contexts. Through our teaching and scholarship, we strive to employ pedagogies and methodologies that honor the diverse backgrounds of our student population. We believe community engagement serves as a transformative foundation for Ethnic Studies practice. Fostering connections among and between communities of color generates powerful opportunities to examine systemic oppression while highlighting the resistance embedded in community and Indigenous knowledge systems and movements. Our program encourages ethical community involvement, supported through specialized coursework, faculty mentorship, and career guidance.
We are excited to announce the launch of our B.A. in Ethnic Studies beginning Fall 2022 and eagerly anticipate welcoming our inaugural class of Ethnic Studies majors.
