The Master of Arts in School Psychology is a component of the School Psychology Program, often pursued as a step toward the higher-level Ed.S. in School Psychology degree. For those not seeking the Ed.S., this can serve as their final degree in the School Psychology Program.
This program equips students with practical skills for collaborating with K-12 students, educators, and families in educational environments. Those who complete this degree along with required practicum and fieldwork (outlined in the Pupil Personnel Services School Psychology Endorsement Credential) qualify for the credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Holding both the MA in School Psychology and this credential also fulfills the educational prerequisites for the Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP) license, regulated by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Coursework covers counseling methods, academic and psychological assessment instruments, behavioral intervention strategies for school and home settings, consultation approaches, program development and evaluation methods, special education legislation, and teaching techniques.
