The Mathematics and Statistics Department provides a Master of Arts in Mathematics program. This MA curriculum enables qualified students to expand and deepen their mathematical expertise. While ensuring competency in fundamental mathematical concepts, the program offers flexibility for graduates to follow diverse career paths - whether teaching at secondary or community college levels, entering private sector roles, or preparing for advanced doctoral studies. Classes are typically scheduled in late afternoon to suit working professionals.
The department's 2-year M.A. program features core courses in Real Analysis and Abstract Algebra, complemented by various mathematics and statistics electives.
With approximately 20 enrolled graduate students, the Mathematics M.A. program maintains small class sizes and close faculty interaction. While some graduates continue toward Ph.D. programs, most complete the M.A. as their terminal degree, securing positions in community colleges, industry, or state government. Numerous alumni remain in the region, now teaching at nearby community colleges.
