Women's and Gender Studies is an evolving interdisciplinary discipline that equips students to become tomorrow's leaders, academics, and advocates for social equity. Our program focuses on analyzing how gender is socially constructed and how women's lives intersect with sexuality, race, socioeconomic status, citizenship, ability, age, and other dimensions of identity. The academic work in Women's and Gender Studies stresses the vital connection between classroom learning, political initiatives, and personal narratives.
Our educational approach enables students to drive transformation in their communities and the wider world. We equip learners with analytical frameworks to investigate gender dynamics across local, national, and international settings. Coursework examines gender through historical and cultural lenses, helping students understand how social structures, economic systems, political campaigns, and individual journeys influence our lives. With a commitment to Applied Theory since 1971, we prioritize civic engagement and advocacy, providing numerous internship and service-learning opportunities.
The Bachelor of Science in Women's and Gender Studies readies graduates for professional paths in education (as faculty members, instructors, or educational developers), counseling (as guidance counselors, mental health professionals, or family counselors), legal fields, healthcare, social services, student affairs, and government roles.
