The Sacramento State music program has three primary objectives:
to foster outstanding achievement in musical performance and academic studies,
to offer foundational training for music-related professions, and
to encourage engagement with diverse musical and artistic activities both on campus and throughout Sacramento.
Performance stands as the central focus of the School of Music. This philosophy is supported by dedicated faculty members who actively perform, both individually and in groups, to elevate educational standards and enrich the cultural environment of the university and surrounding area.
Music majors must demonstrate technical mastery of their craft while also completing comprehensive studies in liberal arts and sciences, which form the foundation of the University's curriculum.
