Ethnic Studies is a multidisciplinary field exploring the languages, cultures, histories, and current affairs of African Americans, Asian Americans, Chicana/os-Latina/os, and Native Americans. This program guides students in critically assessing these communities' global and national cultural impacts. It prompts learners to reevaluate prevailing assumptions, frameworks, and ideas concerning racial and ethnic communities, fostering the creation of accurate interpretations and understandings of diverse populations and their lived realities. The curriculum motivates students to combat discriminatory practices through active engagement.
The program also promotes combining Ethnic Studies with specialized fields. For instance, one might pursue an Ethnic Studies major alongside a Business Administration minor. Likewise, Engineering Technology graduates can complement their degree with an Ethnic Studies minor, equipping them for leadership roles in our diverse society. Graduates with Ethnic Studies credentials pursue careers across government and corporate sectors.
