Ethnic Studies is an interdisciplinary field exploring the cultures, languages, histories, and modern concerns of African Americans, Asian Americans, Chicana/os-Latina/os, and Native Americans. This program guides students in critically assessing these groups' cultural impacts on global civilization and U.S. society. It prompts students to question prevailing assumptions, theories, and ideas about racial and ethnic communities to form more accurate understandings of their experiences. The curriculum motivates students to combat discriminatory practices actively.
The program also promotes combining Ethnic Studies with professional disciplines. For instance, one might pursue an Ethnic Studies major alongside a Business Administration minor. Likewise, Engineering Technology graduates with an Ethnic Studies minor gain valuable preparation for leadership roles in diverse workplaces. Graduates with Ethnic Studies credentials pursue careers across both public and private sectors.

An applicant who has not completed any post-secondary education after high school is considered a first-time freshman applicant. If there is a gap between the time you graduated high school and when you are applying to the University, but have not attempted or completed any college or university coursework, you are still considered a first-time freshman.
