Ethnic Studies is a multidisciplinary field exploring the languages, cultures, histories, and current affairs of African Americans, Asian Americans, Chicana/os-Latina/os, and Native Americans. This program guides students in critically assessing these communities' global and national cultural impacts. It prompts learners to evaluate prevailing assumptions, frameworks, and ideas concerning racial and ethnic communities, fostering the creation of accurate interpretations and models of diverse populations and their lived realities. The curriculum motivates students to combat discriminatory practices through active engagement.
The program supports combining Ethnic Studies with specialized fields. One might pursue an Ethnic Studies major alongside a Business Administration minor, for instance. Likewise, Engineering Technology graduates can complement their degree with an Ethnic Studies minor, equipping them for leadership roles in diverse workplaces. Graduates with Ethnic Studies credentials pursue opportunities across government and corporate sectors.
