The M.A. in English program at CSUN provides comprehensive education in textual and cultural analysis, covering areas like rhetoric, literary studies, creative writing, and critical theory. Graduates gain expertise in analyzing and creating diverse texts while understanding their social, cultural, political, creative, and technological dimensions. The program attracts students eager to employ their analytical and writing abilities across historical and contemporary cultural works.
This English master's degree features three specialization tracks: Literature, Creative Writing, and Rhetoric and Composition. The department provides select graduate students with Teaching Associate (TA) positions. TAs complete ENGL 600A and 600B (3 units each) while instructing one section of Approaches to University Writing per term under supervision, receiving compensation. Advanced TAs may qualify for additional teaching roles. Prospective students should consult the graduate advisor regarding program tracks and career paths, while those interested in TA positions should contact the composition director.
