The Master of Arts in English program at CSUN provides comprehensive education in textual and cultural analysis, covering areas such as rhetoric, literary studies, creative writing, and critical theory. Graduates gain expertise in analyzing and creating diverse texts while understanding their social, cultural, political, creative, and technological dimensions. The program attracts students eager to employ their analytical and writing abilities across historical and contemporary cultural works.
The English M.A. features three specialization tracks: Literature, Creative Writing, and Rhetoric and Composition. A select number of Teaching Associate (TA) positions are available for qualified graduate students. TAs complete ENGL 600A and ENGL 600B (3 units each) while teaching one section of Approaches to University Writing per semester under supervision, receiving a stipend. Advanced TAs may qualify for additional teaching assignments. Prospective students should consult the graduate advisor about program options and career paths, while those interested in TA positions should contact the composition director.
