The 30-credit Master of Arts program with a Visual Arts specialization focuses on cultivating visual cognition and inventive approaches to artistic challenges, while equally valuing analytical reasoning, creative exploration, and perceptual awareness. Graduate candidates are expected to comprehend art's historical foundations and its cultural, societal, and political significance. The program actively promotes engagement with university-wide resources and departmental technologies within Art and Design. Specializations include Ceramics, Drawing, Illustration, Painting, Photography/Video, Printmaking, and Sculpture. The Art and Design Department aims to deliver a comprehensive visual arts curriculum spanning three domains: art education, art history, and studio practice. The curriculum fosters appreciation for visual reasoning and artistic innovation alongside the significance of perception, experimentation, and critical analysis. Students explore art's historical lineage and its connections to societal issues and diverse cultural expressions.
The Sculpture concentration fosters inventive approaches through exposure to diverse techniques.
