The Bachelor of Music program specializing in Winds focuses on classical training for woodwind and brass instruments, including flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba (an entrance audition is mandatory). The culminating experience involves presenting a one-hour recital. This degree path is designed for aspiring professional performers, private instructors, and collegiate educators. Participants gain extensive performance exposure through recitals, ensembles of varying sizes, studio sessions, and master classes. The curriculum also covers musical literature, teaching methods, and performance traditions. Graduates will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of their instrument's repertoire and the skills to perform selected works, highlighted by a senior recital.

Performance groups available include the Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Music ensembles such as the Northridge Flute Quartet and CSUN Brass Ensemble. Additional opportunities include playing in opera and musical theater orchestras, as well as touring with the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra.
Alumni from the music department hold successful careers worldwide as educators in schools and universities, certified music therapists, orchestra and band conductors, published composers, acclaimed recording artists, performers with prestigious opera companies and symphony orchestras, studio musicians, chamber ensemble members, and professionals in Southern California's entertainment industry and beyond.
