Aspiring elementary or special education teachers should consider one of the Liberal Studies Teacher Preparation programs. These options lead to a B.A. in Liberal Studies while covering the diverse subjects taught in self-contained classrooms. The curriculum includes language arts, natural sciences, mathematics, social sciences, humanities, visual and performing arts, human development, physical education, and health studies. Graduates gain comprehensive knowledge across these disciplines. Those choosing the Teacher Preparation track are exempt from University General Education requirements, as completing the Liberal Studies major satisfies these prerequisites.
The ITEP-Freshman program is tailored for incoming students prepared for college-level math and writing courses who are confident about their teaching career path. Participants progress through their four-year journey with their original class group, including summer sessions, with some specialized courses. ITEP-Freshman students enroll in 12-18 units each semester. The program features supervised elementary classroom experiences and the chance to join a tight-knit academic community. Completing this option requires 134 units and results in both a B.A. degree and a Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential.
