The English undergraduate program offers five specialization tracks: Literature, Creative Writing, Subject Matter, FYI, and JYI, along with an Honors option, catering to students seeking focused study within the English discipline. Upon declaring their major, students must select one of these concentrations. For guidance on choosing a specialization or exploring career paths with an English bachelor's degree, consult an English department advisor.
The Four-Year Integrated (FYI) and Junior-Year Integrated (JYI) English Single Subject Matter Programs for the teaching credential pathway equip students for secondary English education careers. These accelerated programs combine English coursework, general education requirements, and teacher preparation, enabling FYI participants to earn both their English B.A. and teaching credential in four years, while JYI students can complete both in just two years. Both programs satisfy California CTC standards for English teaching credentials.
