The Criminology and Justice Studies program fosters a comprehensive understanding of crime, victimization, and the justice system through theoretical, analytical, and practical social science approaches. This curriculum establishes core competencies in criminology and criminal justice through critical analysis, applied learning, theoretical frameworks, research methods, cultural awareness, written communication, and legal/ethical principles. Majors gain the knowledge and analytical skills needed for careers in criminal justice or related fields, with deep system understanding and critical evaluation capabilities. The program also prepares students for advanced graduate studies in criminal justice and related disciplines. Criminal justice coursework synergizes with numerous other academic areas such as sociology, political science, psychology, social services, mental health counseling, child development, healthcare, and any discipline intersecting with deviant or unlawful conduct.
