The Central American Studies Program pursues three key objectives: supporting the expanding Central American population in the U.S. through educational achievement, civic engagement, and cultural awareness; fostering international discourse and academic-community partnerships that strengthen transnational Central American identity; and advancing knowledge of Central America's varied cultures, ethnic backgrounds, lived experiences, and perspectives through interdisciplinary global approaches. The Department of Central American and Transborder Studies shares this three-part purpose: to strengthen the sizable and increasing Central American demographic in America by encouraging scholastic success, public participation, and multicultural appreciation; to create platforms for worldwide engagement and scholarly-societal conversations that build Central American cross-border unity; and to deepen comprehension and respect for Central America's rich cultural tapestry, diverse heritage, collective narratives, and viewpoints from a worldwide interdisciplinary standpoint.
