The Art and Design Department provides a comprehensive curriculum tailored for students seeking a liberal arts education in creative fields. Aspiring artists enjoy abundant avenues to showcase their creativity and secure career opportunities post-graduation. Learners can investigate various artistic disciplines to identify the specialization that aligns with their passions and abilities.
The Bachelor of Arts program caters to students pursuing: (1) a liberal arts education with an art focus, (2) concentrated art studies, (3) graduate school preparation in art, (4) training for academic and professional careers, and/or (5) art teaching credential requirements.
All Art majors must complete the foundational lower and upper division coursework. Students then choose elective units from one or more departmental concentrations to fulfill their B.A. requirements in their selected field. The program also provides extracurricular experiences to enhance professional competencies and career prospects.
The department aims to deliver a well-rounded visual arts program covering three key disciplines: art education, art history, and visual arts. The curriculum emphasizes visual literacy, creative problem-solving, and the significance of perception, experimentation, innovation, and analytical thinking. Students explore art's historical evolution and cultural significance, along with its societal impact. Specialization options include animation, ceramics, digital media, drawing, graphic design, illustration, painting, photography/video, printmaking, and sculpture.
