The Department of Art and Design provides a comprehensive program tailored for students seeking a liberal arts education focused on artistic disciplines. Aspiring creatives enjoy abundant avenues to showcase their talents and secure career opportunities post-graduation. The program allows students to investigate various artistic domains before selecting the specialization that aligns with their passions and abilities.
The Bachelor of Arts curriculum caters to students pursuing: (1) a liberal arts education with an art concentration, (2) focused artistic training, (3) foundation for graduate art studies, (4) preparation for academic and professional careers, and/or (5) art teaching certification.
All Art majors complete both foundational and advanced core coursework. Students then customize their B.A. program by selecting electives from one or more specialized tracks within the department. The curriculum also includes interdisciplinary experiences to enhance professional competencies and career prospects.
Our department aims to deliver a well-rounded visual arts education across three key disciplines: art education, art history, and studio arts. The program cultivates visual literacy, creative problem-solving, and emphasizes the significance of perception, experimentation, originality, and analytical thinking. Students gain knowledge of artistic traditions and their cultural significance, along with exposure to diverse global art forms. Specialization options include animation, ceramics, digital arts, drawing, graphic design, illustration, painting, photography/video, printmaking, and sculpture.
