The Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing provides a postmaster's Certificate in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) designed for nurses holding a master's degree in Nursing who wish to enroll in existing courses from the Master of Science in Nursing program. This certificate equips graduates to care for acutely ill adult patients across diverse healthcare environments such as clinics, emergency rooms, hospitals, and intensive/critical care units. With a focus on research and evidence-based methodologies, students engage in a curriculum blending theoretical knowledge with structured clinical training, promoting comprehensive patient care and interdisciplinary teamwork. Graduates become eligible to take the national acute care nurse practitioner certification exam upon program completion. Admission requirements vary depending on whether students enter with a Nurse Practitioner-certified master's degree or other nursing master's degrees. Those without current Nurse Practitioner credentials who complete the certificate program may apply for state certification through the California Board of Registered Nursing. All certificate graduates qualify to take their specialty's national Nurse Practitioner certification examination.
