The Master's program offers three specialization tracks: Financial Economics, Global Economics, and Public Policy Economics. The Financial Economics track equips students with financial and economic analysis capabilities sought after by consulting firms, securities companies, investment banks, mutual funds, and insurance providers. The Global Economics track develops analytical abilities along with comprehensive understanding of international economic systems, preparing graduates for roles in consulting firms, government bodies, multinational corporations, and global institutions. The Public Policy track teaches methodologies for assessing government policy impacts while providing in-depth knowledge of public sector programs. This specialization readies students for careers across various government levels, advocacy groups, research organizations, and corporations involved in sectors like urban development and healthcare services.

Qualification Requirements

In addition to University requirements for conditional admission to graduate study, applicants should have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 (A=4.00) in the last sixty semester units. Applicants with a GPA just under 2.75 may be considered for admission at the discretion of the department. For admission to classified graduate standing in Economics, applicants must meet the above admission requirements plus the following prerequisites: equivalent of the baccalaureate in Economics at Cal State L. A. or completion with a B (3.0) average of a set of prerequisite courses selected by a department advisor, and filing of a program, including electives, with the College of Business and Economics Advisement Center
