The civil engineering graduate program aims to deliver an exceptional educational journey, equipping students with specialized technical expertise to emerge as influential leaders in both industry and society. Our Civil Engineering curriculum offers multiple focus areas: Structural, Geotechnical, Water/Environmental, Transportation, and Construction Management.

Qualification Requirements

An earned Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, with essential undergraduate prerequisites in civil engineering satisfied. Graduates of curricula outside these program areas may be required to satisfy program prerequisites before full admission into the program.

A GPA of 2.8 or above from upper-division engineering classes.

Demonstrate English language proficiency (e.g., TOEFL score of >= 80 (iBT), or overall IELTS score of >= 6, or DuoLingo score of >= 115). The complete list of options for demonstrating English Language proficiency can be found on the CSULB international student webpage.

Submit a statement of purpose (with clear indication of the area of specialization).

Submit three (3) professional and/or academic letters of recommendation (Exception: This requirement is waived for applicants with a GPA greater than 3.0).
Have earned a grade point average of at least 2.5 on the last degree completed by the candidate or have attained a grade point average of at least 2.5 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted.
