The College of Education at CSULB fosters a dynamic learning environment dedicated to developing skilled educators who champion fairness and high standards in urban educational contexts. This is achieved through innovative teaching methods, research-backed strategies, teamwork, leadership, creativity, academic inquiry, and active advocacy. Offering undergraduate, credential, and graduate programs, the College operates through four academic departments: Liberal Studies, Educational Leadership, Teacher Education, and Advanced Studies in Education and Counseling, along with the university-wide Single Subject Credential Program. Coursework across these programs equips future educators for roles in preschools, K-12 schools, community colleges, adult education, and other learning institutions. Detailed program prerequisites and requirements for credentials, certificates, and degrees can be found in the respective department sections of this catalog, with doctoral program overviews concluding this segment.
Pathway 2 caters to uncredentialed educators working in private schools or international settings. Participants take six online core courses plus four specialized courses (totaling 12 units) to meet the 30-unit degree requirement. The program, which can be completed in three to four semesters, offers flexible course formats including online, hybrid, and in-person options. Note: This pathway does not lead to credential clearance.
