As outlined in the curriculum standards set by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Computer Society, Computer Engineering integrates principles from both computer science and electrical engineering. This discipline focuses on the scientific and technological aspects involved in designing, building, implementing, and maintaining both software and hardware elements of contemporary computing systems and computer-controlled devices. (Source: Computer Engineering Curricula Report, p.9). The computer engineering program at CSULB concentrates on developing, applying, and implementing digital and embedded systems. Upon graduation, students will possess the skills to transform concepts into tangible designs and functional implementations (covering both circuit design and programming), followed by thorough testing, prototyping, and showcasing operational solutions. CSULB provides a practical learning environment where students engage in the entire development process, from initial concept to fully functional systems.
