The Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics with a Translation Studies concentration caters to students passionate about cross-language translation. This curriculum offers comprehensive training in linguistic principles and translation methodologies.
Degree requirements consist of the Linguistics B.A. Core (22 units), four specialized Translation Studies courses (12 units), and three elective courses in linguistics or translation (9 units). Candidates must complete fourth-semester proficiency or equivalent in a non-English language, with additional language coursework strongly recommended.
Translation coursework is administered by the Clorinda Donato Center for Global Romance Languages and Translation Studies, covering diverse areas like multimedia translation, literary translation, cognitive translation studies, ethical considerations in translation, and practical translation seminars.
Students can focus on any language for their translation specialization. For languages unavailable at CSULB, independent language study options exist.

CSULB has waived the SAT/ACT requirement for all first-time Freshmen applicants. However, if you have taken the test or are planning on doing so, you may have met our English language requirement if you scored at least 550 on the SAT Evidence based Reading & Writing section or ACT 22 or higher in the English section.
