The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology offers an extensive exploration of physical activity and human movement. Learners examine motion throughout life from multiple perspectives, including mechanical, physiological, psychological, sociocultural, behavioral, instructional, and professional standpoints. Specialized focus areas enhance foundational knowledge, preparing students for graduate studies or careers in fields like allied health, exercise science, gerokinesiology, physical education, recreation, sports studies, strength training, senior fitness, physical education instruction, and athletic coaching.
The Kinesiology Department promotes research and application of human movement throughout life within our evolving, diverse society. Both undergraduate and graduate programs provide specialized study options in Exercise Science, Gerokinesiology, Pre-Allied Health, Recreation, Sport Studies, Strength Training, and Teacher Education. Students may also pursue an undergraduate Minor in Kinesiology. The full-time Master of Science in Athletic Training program trains future athletic trainers. These degree programs facilitate advanced research across kinesiology sub-disciplines: biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control/learning, motor development, sport psychology, and socio-cultural movement studies. The department's interdisciplinary approach cultivates essential liberal arts skills: analytical reasoning, solution-finding, leadership, effective communication, and technical proficiency.
