The Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology offers an extensive exploration of physical activity and human movement. Learners examine movement throughout life from multiple perspectives, including mechanical, physiological, psychological, sociocultural, behavioral, instructional, and professional standpoints. Specialized focus areas enhance foundational knowledge, preparing students for graduate studies or careers in fields like allied health, exercise science, gerokinesiology, physical education, recreation, sports studies, strength training, senior fitness, physical education instruction, and athletic coaching.
The Kinesiology Department promotes the study and application of human movement across all life stages within our evolving, diverse society. Both undergraduate and graduate programs provide specialized tracks in Exercise Science, Gerokinesiology, Pre-Allied Health, Recreation and Physical Activity Promotion, Sport Studies, Strength and Conditioning, and Teacher Education. Students can also pursue an undergraduate Minor in Kinesiology. The Master of Science in Athletic Training is an intensive professional program training future athletic trainers. These degree programs facilitate advanced research in kinesiology sub-disciplines such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor control/learning, motor development, sport psychology, and socio-cultural aspects of movement. The department's interdisciplinary approach cultivates essential liberal arts skills: analytical reasoning, problem-solving, leadership, effective communication, and technological proficiency.
