The Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education provides focused training for diverse roles working with children from infancy to elementary school. This flexible curriculum accommodates students with varying academic and professional experiences, as well as different career goals.

This 30-unit graduate program offers two concentration tracks: Teacher Leader for TK-3 educators or Program Leader for professionals in broader educational environments. Each pathway tailors to specific career aspirations within the field of early childhood development.

Qualification Requirements

Specifically, a student shall (1) hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association, or have completed equivalent academic preparation as determined by appropriate campus authorities; (2) be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended; (3) have satisfied any one of the following: [a] attained a GPA of at least 2.5 in an acceptable earned baccalaureate degree, or [b] attained a GPA of at least 2.5 in the last 60 semester units (90 quarter units) attempted, or [c] hold an acceptable post-baccalaureate degree earned at an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association.

In addition to the admission requirements listed in the Graduate Education Program section of this catalog, M.A. in Education Early Childhood Education program applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be qualified for ECE Master Teaching Permit (B.A./B.S. degree plus 12 units ECE or Child Development and 3 units supervised ECE fieldwork) or hold a valid teaching credential.
Provide verification of advisement.

English language Score: TOEFL – 80 iBT, or IELTS – 6.5, or Pearson’s Test of English - 53, or iTEP – 4.5. Application Deadline for Fall: June 1.
