The Child Development program offers comprehensive training in the scientific understanding of child growth, combined with hands-on applications for fields involving direct child interaction. This program serves as a strong base for careers in childcare, program management, or roles within healthcare and human services focused on children. It also equips students for advanced studies leading to teaching credentials, school psychology, or social work degrees.
Embracing our interdisciplinary approach, Child and Family Science faculty integrate knowledge from various social science fields (including human development, family studies, developmental psychology, cultural psychology, and communications) to provide students with multifaceted insights into growth processes and family dynamics.

By combining academic rigor with practical experiences—including service learning, internships, research projects, and fieldwork—students translate theory into practice to benefit children and families. Have graduated from high school (earning a high school diploma), have earned a Certificate of General Education Development (GED) or have passed the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE)
English language Score: TOEFL – 61 iBT, or IELTS – 6.0 or with 5.5 Band score in each section, or ELS Language Centers - Level 112, or Pearson's Test of English – 45. Application Deadlines: Fall - July 1 and Spring - November 1.
