The Bachelor of Science in Biology is a 120-credit program. Out of these, 48 credits fulfill the university's General Education requirements, while 21 credits comprise the essential biology core courses mandated by the Biology Department. This foundational core curriculum establishes the fundamental knowledge base for all biology majors, serving as the groundwork for advanced biological studies. Further program details are provided below.
This biology degree equips students for diverse career paths, advanced graduate studies (including the department's M.S. in Biology program), and admission to professional degree programs. Through major requirements and electives, students can tailor their studies to align with their career aspirations. Academic advisors assist in course selection to match individual interests and professional goals. The cellular and molecular biology focus particularly prepares students for the Professional Science Master's in Biotechnology program.
Prospective graduate and professional school applicants should note that admission criteria frequently surpass the basic Biology B.S. requirements, especially in supporting fields like chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Students are encouraged to consult with advisors regarding specific graduate and professional program prerequisites.
