Chicano and Latin American Studies (CLAS) is a multidisciplinary program that effectively delivers a comprehensive, engaging, and thought-provoking perspective on the Chicanx/Latinx experience across the United States, Latin America, and their interconnected relations. This department fosters a diverse dialogue of ideas within an academic framework, enabling faculty, students, and guest scholars to collaborate and cultivate a vibrant intellectual community.
The Chicano and Latin American Studies Department aims to achieve these key goals:

to raise awareness of the historical and cultural foundations of Chicanx/Latinx communities in the U.S.
to deepen knowledge about Latin America
to nurture respect for ethnic and national diversity
to critically examine the Chicanx and Latin American experience through relevant issues, theories, contemporary challenges, and resolutions, and
to equip students with essential professional skills for meaningful engagement with Chicanx/Latinx communities and multicultural societies.
The program adopts an interdisciplinary method to explore family dynamics, history, politics, culture, and artistic expressions within Chicano and Latin American populations. Coursework offers a holistic perspective, enhancing students' awareness of the social realities and rich diversity of these communities.

Have graduated from high school (earning a high school diploma), have earned a Certificate of General Education Development (GED) or have passed the California High School Proficiency Examination (CHSPE)

English language Score: TOEFL – 61 iBT, or IELTS – 6.0 or with 5.5 Band score in each section, or ELS Language Centers - Level 112, or Pearson's Test of English – 45. Application Deadlines: Fall - July 1 and Spring - November 1.
