The Master of Science in Nursing Program at Cal State East Bay aims to equip nurses from our culturally diverse community with the skills to excel as educators, leaders, and administrators across clinical, organizational, and academic environments. The curriculum enhances undergraduate nursing foundations, fostering advanced competencies required for elevated nursing practice and leadership roles. It offers a smooth transition to doctoral studies for those pursuing further education, delivered through convenient online and hybrid formats. This program is structured for completion within four semesters.
Upon earning their M.S. in Nursing, graduates will be ready for roles in clinical, organizational, and academic settings. Those specializing in Nursing Education will gain expertise for clinical education leadership or teaching positions in nursing programs. Meanwhile, graduates focusing on Leadership and Management will be prepared for administrative and leadership roles in healthcare practice environments.

Qualification Requirements
The M.S. in Nursing degree program is open to applicants who have a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited institution and are licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in California. Admission will be granted based upon the Admission Committee's overall assessment of the student's qualifications and academic/career potential, using the following criteria:
Cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Valid RN license, or be eligible for CA RN Licensure.
One year or more professional nursing experience is preferred.
Two professional letters of recommendation (on letterhead), indicating the applicant's potential for success in graduate education and a nursing leadership role.
Goal Statement - A two-page essay indicating the applicant's career interests and goals, their purpose for seeking this advanced degree, and how you are prepared to meet the demands and requirements of this program.
Interview - To be arranged following receipt of the application.
All undergraduate/graduate transcripts must be sent to University Admissions.
STAT 100 Elements of Statistics and Probability, or its equivalent, with a grade of C or better prior to starting the MSN program and within the past ten (10) years.
English language demonstration is required for all applicants processed in International Admissions. We accept the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT version or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic version of the exams.
TOEFL iBT Total Score - 80
IELTS Academic Overall Score - 6.5
