The Department offers some of Cal State East Bay's most rapidly expanding degree programs. Public Health and Health Sciences majors are passionate about enhancing community well-being across California. These students are training for diverse careers including public health administration, healthcare policy, legal professions, health education, program development and assessment, community wellness, mental health services, workplace safety, and beyond.
Our programs examine population health through lenses of health equity and social justice, while investigating how changing physical, social, and political landscapes impact wellbeing. Students learn to analyze health critically through multiple viewpoints and appreciate cultural influences on health perceptions.
Problem-based learning forms the foundation of our educational philosophy. We prioritize cultivating analytical reasoning, collaborative abilities, and innovative solution-finding skills in our students.
The Public Health BS degree embodies the Department's fundamental principles. This program equips students with essential public health knowledge and practical skills to address both longstanding and emerging health challenges. Graduates gain quick access to the growing public health job market, which offers significant professional growth potential. Most crucially, Public Health bachelor's holders will implement comprehensive approaches to safeguard community health and reduce health disparities among marginalized populations.
